- Dyson has launched Submarine versions of its V12 and V10 vacuums, alongside the V15
- These are the standard vacuum but with an extra mopping floorhead
- All are heavily discounted in the Black Friday sales
I've been a fan of Dyson's V15s Detect Submarine for a long time. It's a simple yet ingenious concept: take an excellent vacuum and bundle in an extra mopping floorhead, thus turning it into an all-in-one floor cleaning machine. The sticking point, though, was always the price.
Until now, the Submarine concept has only been applied to the Dyson V15 Detect. This is one of Dyson's best vacuums – it's packed with cutting-edge tech, and unfortunately that means it also has a rather large price tag. I always wondered why the brand didn't offer other Submarine options, for people who wanted a hybrid cleaner but didn't want or need quite such an advanced vacuum.
My wish has been granted now that there's a V12s Detect Slim Submarine and Cyclone 10 Submarine joining the V15s Detect Submarine in the Dyson UK lineup. Both those new additions are much more affordable than the V15s, and what's more, both are already discounted in the Black Friday sales. Take a look at the deals below, or scroll down for a closer look at the new wet-and-dry options.
Today's best Dyson Submarine vacuum deals
Dyson Cyclone V10 Submarine: was £479.99 now £329.99 at Dyson UKThis is the cheapest of the new Submarines, and with a £150 price cut, it's down to around the same price you'd pay for a standard V8. Given this machine has stronger specs and the extra mopping floorhead, it's easy to recommend.

Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine: was £599.99 now £449.99 at Dyson UKThe V12s has also had £150 slashed off its sticker price, and sits in the middle of the Submarine range. It's notably more advanced than the V10, and in fact has most of the same features as the pricier V15 – although note, the dust cup is small so it's not well-suited to large homes.

Dyson V15s Detect Submarine: was £799.99 now £599.99 at Dyson UKIf you want the original, most advanced Submarine option, the V15s is also included in the sale – and in fact, it's had the biggest discount of the bunch. With £200, it's back down to the lowest price I have on record for this tech-packed machine.
View DealHow does the Submarine floorhead work?
I'm assuming the mopping floorhead on the two new additions is essentially the same as the one that's included with the V15s Detect Submarine, which has been tested by my teammate at TechRadar Australia. This floorhead is a self-contained extra, containing all the parts that turn the vacuum into a mop.
There's a single roller, covered with a velvety mop fabric, plus a clean and dirty water tank. The roller mop is removable for easy cleaning – and in fact, you can run the whole cleaning section under a tap if it starts to get grubby.
The Submarine head won't turn the machine into a true wet-and-dry vacuum because there's no suction when the vac is in mop mode. Instead, like the Dyson WashG1 (the brand's only dedicated wet cleaner), it uses hydration and agitation to clear spillages and freshen up your floors.
While it's not quite perfect – the Submarine head can drip dirty water if you're not extremely careful when you remove it – my teammate still found it ultra-useful for small mopping jobs. She also praised the idea's space-saving potential, removing the need for a separate vacuum and mop.
Note: the Submarine floorhead isn't compatible with the Dyson's standard vacuums. So you couldn't, for instance, buy just the floorhead and add it onto your regular Cyclone V10.
Which of the Submarine vacuums should I buy?
If the mopping floorhead is pretty much the same across the three vacuums (which looks to be the case), your choice will be mainly dictated by which vacuum suits your needs best.
The Cyclone V10 Submarine is the cheapest of the bunch. The original V10 is a bit of an outlier in the Dyson lineup. It sits between the V8 (which remains extremely popular) and V11, and seems to have been rather forgotten about. That's not to say it's not worth considering – there's no flashy tech here, but it's all-round a better machine than the V8, with a larger bin, longer runtimes and extra suction mode. If you just want something simple and affordable, this is the option I'd recommend.
The V12 Detect Slim launched alongside the V15 Detect, and boasts many of the same advanced features in a smaller, lighter and more affordable package. So you're getting real-time dirt reports and automatic suction adjustment. Plus, there a further floorhead that's soft and kitted out with a laser, designed to buff up your hard floors and illuminate any dust or dirt that might get missed. The small dust cup means it's not the best choice for large homes, but otherwise it's well worth your attention.
