BYU bounced back from its loss at Texas Tech with a 44-13 thumping of visiting TCU last week to get to 6-1 in the Big 12. Bear Bachmeier threw and ran for touchdowns, finishing 23-of-33 for 296 yards passing while running for 59 yards on 10 carries. LJ Martin finished with 88 yards and a score on 21 attempts, and Parker Kingston also had a rushing TD. Carsen Ryan snared a touchdown reception while Kingston caught five passes for 80 yards. The defense racked up four sacks while Tanner Wall and Faletau Satuala picked off passes.
Cincinnati comes in off consecutive Big 12 losses, leaving it at 5-2 in conference play. Last week, the Bearcats fell 30-24 to visiting Arizona, dimming their hopes of reaching the conference title game. Tawee Walker ran for 119 yards on 12 carries while Zion Johnson and Brendan Sorsby scored touchdowns on the ground. Sorsby also threw for 154 yards and a score while getting picked off twice. Jeff Caldwell finished with 68 yards on five receptions with a TD.
The Big 12 could end up with a six-way tie for first place, but BYU’s path to the championship game is simple: beat Cincinnati and UCF to close the regular season. The Bearcats need losses from Utah and Houston and an Arizona State win over Arizona to go with wins in their final two games. Saturday’s matchup is just the second between the schools, with the Cougars posting a 35-27 win at home over Cincinnati on Sept. 29, 2023.
