Utah cruised to its third straight win last week, improving to 5–2 in Big 12 play with a dominant 55–28 road victory over Baylor. The Utes jumped out to a 14–0 lead late in the first quarter on Elijah Davis’ 65-yard interception return for a touchdown and never looked back, relying on explosive plays throughout the game.
Byrd Ficklin broke free for touchdown runs of 67 and 74 yards, while Wayshawn Parker added a 64-yard scoring burst. Ficklin, filling in regularly for an injured Devon Dampier, totalled 166 yards on just six carries. Parker contributed 129 yards on 15 attempts, and Naquari Rogers scored twice on the ground. Dampier also threw two touchdown passes, one to Parker and another to Dallen Bentley, to cap Utah’s offensive outburst.
Kansas State outlasted Oklahoma State for a 14-6 road win last week to improve to 4-3 in Big 12 play. Avery Johnson’s 34-yard pass to Jayce Brown midway through the second quarter gave the Wildcats a 7-6 lead they never relinquished. Joe Jackson ran for 69 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries while Johnson threw for 177 yards with a score and an interception. Daniel Cobbs, VJ Payne and Zashon Rich all posted interceptions for the defense.
The Utes and Wildcats are meeting for the first time on Saturday.
