The close timing and female victims triggered alarm among residents on platforms such as TikTok and Facebook, but according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO), the evidence indicates no linked pattern and no broader threat to public safety. "We can confirm these claims are FALSE. Our detectives are investigating recent homicide cases ... but we want to reassure the community there is no danger to the public related to these incidents," the agency stated in a social-media post.

JSO finished their statement affirming that "Our detectives are investigating recent homicide cases that involve female victims, following the facts and evidence in each case. We will share updates as soon as we are able to, but we want to reassure the community there is no danger to the public related [to] these incidents."

A suspect, 31-year-old Randy Campbell of Dallas, Texas, who was Nunley's ex-boyfriend and the father of one of her children, has been arrested in connection with her shooting after police received an anonymous tip.

JSO reported that he is suspected of her murder exclusively and will be extradited to Jacksonville for his crimes. He is reportedly not involved in the other recent homicides, going against the popular serial killer theory.

Yet many residents remain unconvinced. The comments under JSO's social media post denying the rumors are overwhelmingly skeptical of the police's assurances regarding the lack of a serial killer in Jacksonville.

Some of the comments read, "The fact it's three women in three days and not related is almost scarier...," "You guys can't even confirm when your officers are assaulting citizens so...," and "No danger to the public? Also if have any information, call us?? Doesn't really scream that JSO has the perpetrators in custody to me lol, but what do I know?"

No other suspects or arrests have been made in regard to the other murders at the time of publication.
