Kiffin has been tied to SEC programs Florida and LSU in recent weeks. Kiffin reportedly gave prior notice to Carter that he intended to speak with other schools about taking a new head coaching job for 2026.
Kiffin's candidacy for Florida and LSU comes amid a successful season for the Rebels. Ole Miss is ranked No. 6 and has a 10-1 record during its bye in Week 13.

The Rebels will finish the regular season on the road against rival Mississippi State for the "Egg Bowl" on Nov. 28.
Per an announcement by Carter on X Friday afternoon, Ole Miss plans to announce Kiffin's future on Nov. 29, one day after the regular season finale.
"Coach Kiffin and I have had many pointed and positive conversations regarding his future at Ole Miss, including meeting today with Chancellor Boyce," Carter posted. "While we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose sight of what is most important- our sixth-ranked team that is poised to finish the regular season in historic fashion.
"Despite the outside noise, Coach Kiffin is focused on preparing our team for the Egg Bowl, and together, we want to ensure that our players and coaches can concentrate fully on next Friday's game. This team is on the cusp of an unprecedented season, and it's imperative they feel the support of the Ole Miss family in the week ahead."

However, Kiffin made it clear earlier this week that he intends to coach Ole Miss on Nov. 28.

While Kiffin is making his decision, there is bound to be plenty of outside noise as Ole Miss prepares to play Mississippi State.
It'll be interesting to see how the Rebels players respond to the drama.
