By Cole SullivanShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberHosting the Super Bowl is a prestigious honor for any city that is part of the NFL.
Since the start of the Super Bowl era, 17 cities have had the honor, with games played in a total of 26 stadiums.
Miami and New Orleans remain tied for the most times as host city, each having hosted 11 Super Bowls. This season’s game, Super Bowl LX, is set to be played in San Francisco at Levi’s Stadium.
However, another city that has never hosted could be in the running for the honor in the near future, according to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday.
That city is Nashville, Tennessee, which is currently in the process of building a new Nissan Stadium expected to be ready by 2027. On Friday, the city held a commencement ceremony for the stadium, which Goodell attended and spoke at.
“I think so much of the vision that Amy [Adams Strunk] and the Titans have here,” Goodell said, via Jim Wyatt of the Titans’ website. “Listen, it’s an important franchise, a wonderful franchise for the NFL. And I know that the work that they’ve done here from the moment you’ve had the draft [in 2019] and what you did to change the trajectory of the draft — you actually took the draft and made it yours. But you did it in a way that made it incredibly impactful for the future of the NFL — and the Titans.
“And I think all of us at that moment had that wake-up moment that this is a Super Bowl-ready city. The one thing that was missing is the stage,” Goodell added. “And I think now, you’re building a great stage. We have a process, but I have every expectation that we’re going to see that type of thing in the future.”

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has already begun the process of sending a letter to Goodell, hoping to position Nashville as a candidate to host Super Bowl LXIII in 2029—a monumental opportunity for the city and the state of Tennessee.
Currently, after this year’s game in San Francisco, the Super Bowl is scheduled to be played at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, which also hosted the game in 2021–22, and then at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to close out 2027.
