By Maria Azzurra VolpeShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberIn a viral Instagram video, a mom-to-be from Texas shared the way her blind dog snuggles up to her baby bump, and internet users can’t cope with the sweet moment.
The heartwarming clip, shared on Tuesday under the username @shelby_salmela, shows the small pup sitting on her owner’s lap, head-butting her baby bump and rubbing her face all over it, as if already crazy in love with her little sister. "POV [point of view]: your blind dog loves your pregnant belly," the caption says, as the poster pets the little pup, Grace, at the back of the neck.
The poster, Shelby Salmela, who is due early in January 2026, told Newsweek that Grace will be 14 in January, and has been her loyal companion since she got the pet on her senior year in high school.
..."I’ve received some sweet comments on social media that dogs can sense pregnancy even before humans do," Salmela said, "and I truly believe that! Grace has been extra intuitive and affectionate during this time, which makes me think she knew something was changing even before I did."
While Grace has always been a cuddler, she has become ever more affectionate since her owner became pregnant with her baby girl.
Salmela said: "The moment I pick her up when she’s feeling fussy, she instantly relaxes in my arms. It’s clear how much she loves being close to me, especially resting on my belly and chest."
Salmela is now preparing to introducing her baby to the pup once they get back home from the hospital, and she is looking forward to capturing that moment on video.
"My dogs has never met a baby before, so it will be fascinating to see how they react. I’ve had Grace since my senior year of high school, and I brought Katie my other Chihuahua into our family just a year later," Salmela said.
"It’s both exciting and surreal to know they’ll soon be meeting my baby. I can’t wait to create even more precious memories together!"
The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 232,000 views and more than 35,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Hello_critty, commented: "I think he is saying to the baby inside: Hey pal! I can't wait to play with you…Are you done baking inside?! Love you."
Adventureswiththeholidays_ said: "Hello baby! I give you a boop and a cuddles."
Lejamiejoy added: "This is just about the cutest thing I have ever seen! I have a black and white similar looking Chihuahua who also lost an eye today due to glaucoma…"
